PROMISES BASED ON PRINCIPLES

As we progress with the campaign you will hear the phrase “Campaign Promise” often from all of us running for office. These are items that we plan on achieving once elected to represent you, the taxpayer.

I know that when most people hear a campaign promise it is accepted with skepticism, and it probably should. We all know people who said they would do one thing and then turned a 180 and did the total opposite.

Therefore, can you be sure that a “Campaign Promise” is a true indicator of the action that candidate will take? How can you be sure that what you here in September will be carried out in January?

Well, there a few ways of knowing if a persons action will match their statements.

First, I believe our principles should drive our promises and not the political wind. The Republican Party has always stood for lower taxes, smaller government, and accountability. These are not campaign jargons to gain a vote, these are statements of convictions that Republicans hold true. Principle promises will not waver in the heat of budget discussions. Principle promises will be the measuring tool we use to carry through on our commitment to you the taxpayer.

Second, voting record is another key indicator of what will be done in the future. If you have been told in past years “we will hold the line on taxes,” ask the question “How did you vote” when budget season came along. Two years ago we knew that the 2007 budget year would be a tough one with re-evaluation coming upon us. I encourage you to check the voting record to see who truly stood on the side of the hard working family, the senior citizen on fixed incomes, and homeowner who pays the greatest amount.

Third, what are the experiences of the candidates? Life, business, and community experience is a great measuring tool when selecting the people who will lead your town or school system. If you look closely at the Republican slate of candidates you will find a group of people with business experience, community involvement, people who own their own homes and pay the taxes, and a vast knowledge of how government works.

Each party is going to promote their resumes’. Each party will make campaign promises. Each party will try to convince you that we are your best hope for lower taxes, better schools, and more efficient town operations.

The work you must do is check the record to see if this person carried through on last elections promises. Did they waver when budget season came along or, did they fold under the pressure?

Knowledge is indeed power and the power is in your hands to reverse the trend we are seeing currently. We, the Republicans, base our promises on “principle.” We also stand on our record of fighting for you the taxpayer. Check us out and vote us in for a change.
