Republican Board of Education Candidates Believe in SAFE-T

If your idea of a good Board of Education candidate includes being involved, aware and caring it is hard to beat the Republican slate.

Start with Sue Lavelli-Hozempa for instance. Sue is an incumbent board member who understands numbers and taxes, how they relate to government and how to get the most out of education dollars.

Sue is employed at the Yankee Institute of Public Policy, and has twenty years experience in corporate finance, as well as ten years of independent study in public policy and economics. Sue has lived in Enfield for sixteen years and shows by hard work and an enthusiastic outlook that she genuinely cares about both the education of our children and the taxpayers.

Running with Sue is incumbent Charles L. Johnson, III. Chuck is a software engineer with Cigna who attended local schools, including Enfield High School, Central Connecticut State University and the New England Institute of Applied Arts & Sciences.

Chuck is focused on providing quality education to our students, and vows to maintain fiscal responsibility. He is a former constable and serves on the Connecticut Water Company Advisory Committee.

Andre V. Greco is also asking voters to return him to the Board of Education. Currently serving as chairman of the building security committee Andre is an 8-year resident who works in sales at Ingersoll Rand Corp.

A 1989 graduate of the University of Hartford with a degree in marketing, Andre is active in the Parent Teachers Organization, the Boy Scouts, the Enfield Little League and is head coach and organizer of the Enfield Little League Challenger Program.

Patrick Droney is a candidate who exemplifies community and school involvement. He has lived in town most of his life, graduated from Fermi High School, is the senior patrol lieutenant in the Enfield Police Department, and has two children still in the school system, in addition to two older children.

Pat serves on the Enfield Girl’s Softball Association, and also served as an assistant coach for the Enfield Girl’s Basketball League. He is the current Vice President of the Fermi Instrumental Music Association, and is a member of the JFK Middle School Band Parents Association.

Pat served on the Cable Advisory Commission, and is a former member of the church council at the Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer. If you are ever considering getting away from it all, Pat also is a licensed pilot and maybe, just maybe you can convince him to fly you somewhere.

For our final Republican school board candidate I don’t want to say “last but not least,” and I also don’t want to say “I saved the best for last.” Let’s just say, that as a columnist, particularly the columnist who is writing this column, I thought it was only fair to mention everyone else on the Republican slate before I noted that the final member is … yours truly.

That’s right, I, Greg Stokes, your erstwhile journalist and commentator am running for the school board too.

I have lived here for more than twelve years, and I write for this publication. But my true profession is Senior Pastor at the Cornerstone Church. I received my B.S. Degree from Baptist Bible College in Springfield, MO, and did my graduate work at the Detroit Theological Seminary.

I am a member of the Enfield Rotary Club, and currently serve on the Board of Assessment Appeals. I am Vice Chairman of the Commission for Child Protection, Board of Director member of the ERFC, and write a web log – blog – titled The Stokes Report.

Although I am not a life long resident of Enfield, I did marry a hometown girl. My wife, Dawn, is the daughter of long time residents Don and Evie Setsky.

Like my fellow Republican Board of Education candidates I too believe in the SAFE-T concept. What does that mean?

Security – Accountability – Fiscal responsibility – Educational enhancement – Technology!

When you are talking with a Republican candidate for the Enfield Board of Education you are in the SAFE-T zone, and you can look to us to watch out for your SAFE-T!

If you would like one of our Council or Board of Education Candidates to contact you to discuss town issues please email me at
