IT’S JUST WAY TO EARLY FOR ME…….
I was sitting at home the other evening channel surfing to see what was on T.V. looking forward to a night of entertainment. “Channel Surfing” is my exercise of choice as I enter my 50th year of life. I may not have six pack abs, but I have the strongest push button fingers in the family.
Anyway, I was looking for a little relief from my daily routine and, nightly meetings. I ran across one of the 30 reruns of “Friends.” I stopped to see which CSI was on and if I had already seen it 10 times. I even checked out the “Andy Griffith Show” and observed the law enforcement skills of Barney Fife. Not exactly like watching our Enfield Police show their talents in the Active Shooter Program.
Then I flipped over to MSNBC and ran across the Campaign 2008 Democrat Forum. I thought, wasn’t there another debate just a week ago on CNN? There also was a Republican debate just a week or so before that. Okay, we are over a year away from choosing the next President, but yet we are having debates…in my opinion way too early.
Nevertheless, I decided to watch this one based at Soldier Field in Chicago. It was intriguing because of the 15,000 people in the audience, all members of the AFL-CIO union. The questions from the audience were the best part of the debate, as I always enjoy the people asking questions, not the media with their set bias.
Now, what was interesting was that if you watched one of these debates, you watched them all. There was the same question’s on the war in Iraq, healthcare and the China trade problem, which has made our country a debtor nation to them. Another issue that deserves an article all on its own.
The answers followed suit. All the same and, geared to get the greatest applause from the audience. There was the major Bush bashing. There was the one-upping of the other candidates on stage. There were the same sound bites we have heard before with candidates hoping their statement would make front page of the AOL website.
As I watched I kept listening for something new. Something that would separate one from the others. Something that would make me feel this one person has what it takes. But it never came. The answers were all the same as in previous debates just worded differently.
My main concern is that we may become “Campaign Weary” and tune out the process for President. With so many early forums from both Party’s I feel we will become numb and lose interest in Campaign 2008. Man, we are still in campaign 2007 in Enfield (which I running for School Board….you knew I would get that in) for local offices.
Well, finally the debate ended with all the candidates shaking hands and hugging each other. Do you feel the love?
Then I switched over to the Fox network to watch the TV show “HOUSE.” Finally, relief from politics and the campaign that will never end.
Then I thought why not Dr. Greg House for President. His approach would solve all our nations’ problems, and do it an hour. He would not be owned by lobbyist. He would be straight forth with the country. Moreover, he would make Congress go crazy. Works for me!
Well, there you have it, my thoughts on the campaign that started way too early.
Look for my future article on the 2020 election. That campaign begins in a couple of years….geeeesh
