This is my article for next weeks Enfield Press. It will be printed after the Lincoln Dinner, therefore I refer to that event as already taking place. I regret that I cannot be at the dinner and share in Scott's moment. Our daughter is getting married on Saturday to a great guy and we will all be at a resort in Vermont. Congratulations Scott...you deserve this honor.

Oh..and congratulations to Angela Stokes and Kevin Best...and our grand daughter Jullianna.

SCOTT KAUPIN…REPUBLICAN OF THE YEAR

Every year at the annual Lincoln Day Dinner the Enfield Republican Town Committee names it’s Republican of the year. This year the honor goes to Town Council Minority Leader, Scott Kaupin.

The selection of Scott follows a long tradition of bestowing this award on an individual who contributes to the Republican party and the community as a whole. Scott does both with character, intellect and, energy.

The award was given to Scott this past Friday night at a dinner that featured Dan Lovallo from WDRC talk radio as keynote speaker.

Scott has served on the Town Council representing the people of District three for 14 years. He also leads the 4th of July Committee which brings to Enfield and surrounding communities one of the best Independence Day Celebrations in the region.

In selecting Scott for this award the Republican Party is acknowledging the contributions that Scott gives to his town.

Scott is a native of Enfield and a graduate of Fermi High School. He left town just long enough to earn a college degree from the University of New Hampshire before heading back to his hometown to begin his career at Retail Brand Alliance and his service to the town.

His first step into public service was his appointment to the Enfield Zoning Board of Appeals. Soon after that appointment he began to set his eyes on the great honor of serving the people of District Three as their Councilman.

So what has made Scott so successful? What attributes does he possess that makes him effective in life’s endeavors? Well, here are a few reasons Scott excels in life and career.

One, Scott is genuine. That means what you see is what you get. He is down to earth and at ease with himself. While he has attained position in town he has never acted like he is entitled to it. When we have campaigned together I have noticed that he works just as hard today as he did to win that first election. Campaigning with Scott is a fun experience. When we knock on doors in his district it is like meeting all his friends. What impresses me is that from door to door people greet Scott as a friend they have known for years.

Two, Scott likes people. I first met Scott about eleven years ago when he along with Mary Lou Strom and Alice Egan attended the church where I was pastor. It was a big day at the church and I was glad that these town leaders shared it with us. It was at that time that they encouraged me to join the Republican Town Committee. From that time on I have observed how Scott attracts people to him. He quickly builds friendship with everyone, even people who call to complain about a town issue soon find a committed friend in Scott. He is a good steward of his position and is greatly assessable.

Third, Scott has character. If Scott gives his word, you can count on him coming through. When campaigns heat up, Scott keeps his cool and shows respect to even his most vocal critics. He is successful because he is honest and well tempered. He does not withdraw from a political battle, but he takes on his opponents by focusing on the issues, not the person.

Forth, Scott has great work ethics. This is proven by the success of the 4th of July Celebration. When we attend the opening ceremony of this event we have no idea how much work went into bringing this to town. Now, Scott will not take the credit because he knows that it all comes together because of the team work of the Celebration Committee, the many volunteers, and the great sponsors. But, he sets a good example by working side by side with them all.

I am glad to count Scott as my friend. I have enjoyed working with him on campaigns. I have learned a lot in the years I have known him and look forward to campaigning with him this fall.

Congratulation Scott for being awarded Republican of Year.
